April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball players to win medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to net her third medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic gold medal. There is a chance that this is her only opportunity, given that she is 39 years old. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly at hand. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that when the team performs well or at all they can earn a gold. "I'm trying to also try a little luck." Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and her sister. She was able to participate in numerous sports in Newport Harbor High School. Along with the indoor game, she also ran track and basketball in her pre-college days. She stood out however in this sport. According to her bio, she played a middle blocker and outside hitter on the volleyball court during her high-school career. Her efforts were recognized by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. She also captured the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman are continuing to play since 2017. However, Ross was a major player in the world of beach volleyball before joining the duo. She has won major tournaments twice with different partners. The other has become an iconic player in the volleyball world. From 2007 to 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be an impressive force on the international arena, taking home the world championship in 2009 with each other. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympics. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team along with Kerri Jennings took home the gold. The fate of the matter was that Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a student athlete for USC Trojans before the start of her professional career. She played in high school and in some years before she hit the beaches as a professional. Ross's time in the Trojans was amazing. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000 as a young freshman. She also helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year, but she still repeated her place as an All-American. In her last two years in the Trojans team, she led the Trojans to winning a national title every time. The achievements of each individual have established her status as a legend in volleyball. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross was a USC international relations student, was a renowned volleyball player. Margie Ross was not able to witness Ross become the highest beach volleyball stage. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was in the midst of being a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her both at and off the beaches.
