Winona-Ryder

Winona Laura Horowitz who is professionally known in the media as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter after her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria as well as half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder along with her whole family moved to California's Mendocino County at the age of seven. Ryder was just seven. At the time, there wasn't electricity. Ryder was a consummate read and often spent her time reading books as there was no television. Ryder started to take acting classes at the American Conservatory Theatre when she was 12 years old. At the age of 15, Ryder landed her first part on screen, in Lucas. Ryder was bullied at her high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actor would be able to help. However, the plan didn't pan out. But she pushed on with her dreams. It was 1988 in the year Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that was her breakthrough. Ryder continued to be successful in her characters in numerous films. In 1993, she was awarded an Academy Awards in the film The Age of Innocence.
