The debut album of Aaliyah Age Ain't Nothin' However A Number debuted in 1994. She was only 15 at the time and the album went on to become Gold. The collaboration that influential to R. Kelly's musical style, put her in the limelight. In the year 1996 Jermaine and Timbaland released Aaliyah's second album One In A Million. The album contained the single If You Girls Only Knew the most-sold single. With the release of this work Aaliyah received international recognition for her performance as an R&B artist. In 2000, she was in Romeo Must Die, a romance/action movie with Jet-Li. Joel Silver, the film producer, met her at an awards show and suggested her the part. She was cast in the film based on Anne Rice, a vampire movie Queen of the Damned, that came out in 2002. The Matrix Sequels saw her playing Zee and appeared on The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions that same year. She received four nominations at the Grammy Awards in 2001, 1999 and 2002. She is a first-generation Indian-American born in Connecticut. Mann is her stage name. Mann is an abbreviation of her marriage name Mankad. Aarti Magnumdar is her professional name. She has also used Aarti Magumdar for her stage name. Though her first career was dominated by minor movie and TV performances, she rose to greater recognition in the latter half of 2000s. Other notable work includes Grey's Anatomy, Suits and Leverage. In addition, she has appeared in commercials for big brands such as international automobile manufacturer Volvo. She lives in Los Angeles where she continues to perform as an actor.
